Over the head

Find the right fit

Measure your dog first — every second spent on fit is worth it in the water.

Between sizes? Always size up for comfort and freedom of movement. A slightly larger jacket is safer than one that's too snug.

How to measure your dog: Use a soft tape measure.

Back length — measure from the base of the neck (where a collar sits) to the base of the tail, along the spine.
Chest (girth) — measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.

If your measurements fall between two sizes, or if your dog is a breed known to have a broad chest, choose the larger size.

Is the chin rest comfortable for smaller dogs?

The chin float is made from soft, padded neoprene — the same material used in wetsuits — so it rests gently under the jaw without digging in. Most dogs accept it quickly, and for smaller breeds in particular, the added head support makes a noticeable difference in their confidence on the water. If your dog is unused to wearing any kind of vest, we recommend a few short, positive wearing sessions on dry land before heading to the water.

Will this work for a dog who's never worn a life vest before?

Yes — the on/off process is intentionally simple to make it easier for dogs who aren't used to wearing gear. That said, every dog is different. We recommend introducing it gradually: let them sniff it, then put it on briefly at home, reward them, and build up the time before you're at the water. Most dogs adapt within a session or two.

Can it get wet and dry quickly between uses?

Absolutely. The outer shell is made from ripstop nylon with a quick-dry finish — it's built to go in and out of the water repeatedly. After each swim, give it a rinse with fresh water to clear any salt or debris, then hang it in a well-ventilated spot. It'll be ready for the next adventure before you know it.

How do I know which size to order?

We recommend sizing by chest measurement (girth) first, then cross-checking the back length — both measurements are in the size chart above. The most common fit issue is going too small on the chest for broad-chested breeds like French Bulldogs or Boxers, so if you're borderline, size up. If you get it home and it doesn't fit correctly, our 30-day returns policy has you covered.

Is the handle strong enough to lift my dog out of the water?

The handle is reinforced with a double-stitched nylon webbing construction and is rated to support the weight range of the jacket's intended size. For sizes XS–L, one confident lift is all it takes. For XL dogs at the upper end of the weight range, use it as an assist rather than a full lift where possible — work with the water, not against it. It's designed to give you control in the moment, not to replace common sense at the water's edge.
